Designing a Chocolate Wrapper
Designing a chocolate wrapper for Anarchy Chocolate is yet another step in getting closer to the final creation of our bean to bar chocolate brand.
One of our main objectives of the chocolate bar wrapper design is to grab your attention when you first set your eyes on an Anarchy Chocolate bar. After all, you only get to make the first impression once!
We all sat down and brain-stormed some ideas of what makes a great chocolate wrapper design. Something that stands out from the crowd.
We had our box of chocolate wrappers we collected over the last 18 months (nice research job!) and discussed what works and doesn’t work for us with their designs and materials used.
We searched online for novel ideas, essential design elements and patterns as well as colours and future trends.
We discussed what style values we wanted to portray through our chocolate wrapper. Would it be modern, minimalist, retro, heritage, quality, luxury, feminine, masculine, serious, playful, vertical or horizontal orientation, or encompass a geographical area and a whole lot more.
Anarchy Chocolate Logo
We had an Anarchy Chocolate logo created a long time ago by a friend here in Trat. We revisited the original logo design and decided to alter it a little. The colour palette from the logo would also set the president for the wrapper design to.
Once we narrowed down our ideas we made 3 or 4 basic mockups (above) using the online app Canva.
One of the main criteria that is important to us at Anarchy Chocolate, is to support local businesses and talent wherever possible. This goes hand in hand with the philosophy of anarchy whereby it is empowering people to take control of their own lives and not on having others having power over them.
As we are 9 months in to a global plandemic, this is more apparent than ever. Governments have far to much power, the people need to take it back into their hands. Anyway, enough politics, let’s get back to our bean to bar chocolate story…
So we set out to source a local design company.
As luck would have it, we were in town grabbing some liquid refreshments when we noticed a sign for a graphics company above the coffee shop we just walked out of.
With cups of tea in hand, we climbed the stairs and introduced ourselves. Several weeks later we sent them our design brief to see what they could create.
We will reveal our final chocolate wrapper design in another blog post. Subscribe for the latest news and special offers from Anarchy Chocolate.
Designing a chocolate wrapper is a full-time job with a lot of elements to take into account. I haven’t even mentioned Katae had to translate from English to Thai for me or how we changed the chocolate molds during the wrapper design phase and didn’t take into account the design dimensions! Doh!
Wikanda Design in Trat (their contact information is on one of the images above) vastly improved upon our basic initial design concepts and brought fresh ideas to the table. The chocolate wrapper design we decided to move forward with was their creation with a just few alterations by us.
It has been said “All you need is love but a little chocolate every now and then doesn’t hurt!” It’s true!
